*Additional Information (9/13)*

While working on this project it became necessary to adjust a few details in the brief.
There was a problem with the name of the sender. There really no distinction between the name of the clothing brand and the name of the company.

-The brand name is "Common Thread" and this what the logo, packaging, etc.will represent.

-The name of the clothing line is "One Mind" and it is a campaign the brand is currently running. It is specifically designed to bring awareness to Mental Health.

The brand runs various clothing lines addressing different issues and stigmas in society on a national and global scale.

Reading #1

Intro-

The way designers look at a project varies. what remains the same for all design work is the endless possibilities of ideas and ways to communicate those ideas to an audience. Finding a solution to a problem is found through research and analysis on behalf of the designer. This also helps with future projects.

Research-

The project's context is the most important thing to understand in a design. The systems used to find this are the design brief, concept map, and knowing the client or audience. Researching and establishing these things creates a successful design.

Design Brief-

A design brief helps identify the idea of the project. Understanding the limitations actually opens up the door to the designer's creativity. There is something to go off of. the examples in the section talk about how designers have done just this. They knew the parameters of the project and they could narrow their design to solve the project's solution accordingly.

Class Assignment #1

Three Things...

In this class the most important thing I would like to work on things that I am not familiar with in terms of design options. I don't have experience with web design or any product design. When we talked about that in class, it seemed really interesting to me. I think that branching out would be nice, but I really want to work on things I am more comfortable with (branding for example). I would like to focus on visual communication and developing that relationship and conversation with people who are viewing my designs.

If I were to work on a larger project, I would really like to do something like a book, or designing a series of books that have interactive elements. Meaning pockets, pop-up elements, and really things that engage the reader with the book. It allows me to explore illustration as well as product design. I saw a band recently produce something like this, but instead of a book, it was illustrations mixed with lyrics and pop-ups and pockets that held small 7" inch vinyl records. Something similar to that is what I would really love to make. I want to push the unconventional design upon things that are otherwise conventional in their design.

My concerns that I have in my quest for becoming a designer, is really not understanding the limits of my designs- my capabilities with software/design mediums, knowing when to push the design, and then when to hold back.

Past Design Work

I designed my own tarot deck, manual, pins, bandanas over the summer. The design process began in illustration class last year and was finally put into action/production.
